How to Load Your Van with Man and Van Wimbledon

Man and Van Wimbledon receive calls from people looking to save a few quid by hiring their own van to move themselves. So, we thought we’d shed some light on how to transport your most prized possessions safely.

Sometimes people have to load their moving van by themselves and although we recommend hiring a professional when it comes to this part of the move, we can still give you some very useful advice if you want to do that yourself. If you’re not in a position to hire a removal company or maybe a friend of yours has offered to help you move. It may seem easy at first, but this whole process is often far more difficult than people think. There are so many little things that you need to consider and one of them is how to best load your van. Not only does it have to be done in a certain order to ensure everything you have will fit, but so nothing is damaged in transit.

You will need all your strength, because moving is all about heavy lifting. The items that should go first in the van (so they come off last at the new property) are the heaviest ones – cooker, washing machine, etc. Put them behind the cab and line them up securely. So, the weight is distributed evenly. Longer things should come next – mirrors, beds, mattresses. After that it is time for the heaviest boxes. The lighter ones can go on top or fill gaps that might be forming. It’s important to pack everything tight so nothing moves around or falls when driving. Fragile and weird shaped items should be put last because these typically cannot be stacked.

Man and Van Wimbledon reminds you to always secure and cover all the items with proper blankets. So, they don’t get scratched (or worse) during the transit.
